Just in - Due to extreme weather conditions off the coast of Sri Lanka, the Sail Maldives rally has been postponed until February 25th 2017. Typhoons near Sri Lanka preclude safe passage for yachts coming from South East Asia. We would like to thank you all for your continued support, and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We hope that good weather will hold for the new date and look forward to welcoming you soon!

The inaugural Sail Maldives yacht rally has been postponed until February 25th due to severe weather off the coast of Sri Lanka, which is inhibiting yachts from being able to make a safe passage from South East Asia to the Maldives. Originally the rally had been set to begin on January 20th. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of sailors en-route to the rally.
The organiser, Adeel Ahmed, CEO of Luxury Collections, said: “Cyclones south of Sri Lanka were inhibiting yachts from being able to sail to the Maldives in time for the start date. We regret any inconvenience this rescheduling may cause anyone, but would like to reassure you that all participants have been informed and were relieved to hear that we have rescheduled the date. Indeed, the participants have been very supportive of our decision to postpone the start of the rally in consideration of their safety.'
“In addition, anyone who hasn’t signed up yet could see this as a chance to seize the golden opportunity to join us!”
The rally will see yachts cruising on a 60-day voyage from the far north to the far south of the Maldives, crossing the equator on the way. Optional activities including snorkelling, scuba-diving, traditional dance shows and cultural exhibitions will be thrown in for participants to enjoy along the way.'
PR & Marketing Manager, Sarah Harvey, added, “We shall, as ever, endeavour to keep everyone aware of any developments regarding Sail Maldives and would like to reassure those who have already signed up of our commitment to ensuring the Sail Maldives rally is a success.”
