This course aims to provide basic theory, installation, operation, and troubleshooting of SSB HF Marine Radio and Pactor modems for sailors, typically those leaving for offshore cruising. Martin Dunsmuir, with more than 40 years of experience, is the principal of White Squall Consulting Inc. (2001), providing communication systems consultation and quality assurance services for emergency and commercial radio, to industry and individual clients.
White Squall is the Canadian direct dealer for SCS Pactor modems. Martin plans on teaching radio in the morning and data modems in the afternoon. Martin developed and published two technical manuals on HF marine radio and the transmission of data over HF radio. He has previously presented to BCA Victoria on installation and operation of marine HF radio communication and data transmission over HF radio for offshore sailors. Martin Dunsmuir is an experienced communications consultant, and author of the manual: Understanding Installing and Operating HF Marine Radio Transceivers. This book will be provided to the primary registrants of this course.
