Tauranga Boat Expo drew the crowds. SW
Tauranga’s inaugural on the water Boat Expo is being hailed a success by organisers, visitors and exhibitors.
A mostly fine weekend and a glistening harbour welcomed just over 4000 people through the gate over the three days. Exhibitors were kept busy with sales and enquiries.
The highlight of the onwater displays on Saturday was the Bath Tub racing with the Tauranga Yacht Club, Coastguard and Port of Tauranga Pilot Boat ‘Arataki’ taking to the water on Sunday. Free jet ski rides were popular along with the kayak and paddleboard demos.
The aim of the Expo and Water Festival was to encourage people out on the water and Tauranga Marine Industry Chairman Brian Kent believes this has been achieved.
‘It was great to see families enjoying our event and making the most of the experts on hand whether it was baiting a hook, viewing the many boats on display or having a go on the rowing machine’ said Brian. ‘The $5 entry free with kids free was intended to make it family friendly and we were delighted with the support.'
The unique venue provided a perfect backdrop to a fabulous array of water related businesses and activities. Brian acknowledges the support of Tauranga City Council and the Harbour Master in making this event possible, ‘without their assistance, this event would not have been possible’ said Brian.
