World ARC - Second start from Bora Bora - Au revoir French Polynesia!

by World Cruising on 20 May 2017
2017-18 WARC - Society Islands Bora Bora – Misto, Taistealai and Tulla Mhor. World Cruising Club
The World ARC fleet said ‘au revoir’ to French Polynesia as they continued their westward journey. The fleet left Bora Bora in two different starts on the 14th and 16th May. The second start of leg five from Bora Bora via Suwarrow and Niue to Tonga took place at 1500 Bora Bora time (UTC - 10).

The conditions at the start were sunny with light Easterly winds, which made for a slow start out of the pass, under sail. First across the start line was Misto followed closely by Taistealai and Tulla Mhor. The committee boat was North, who is taking a gap year from World ARC and exploring more of what French Polynesia has to offer. Several other boats have also fallen in love with this part of the globe and so we had to say farewell for now to Scallywag, Ocean Bird, Rainbow and Like a Breeze.

‘It was hard to leave good friends behind, but we know we will cross paths further down the line.’ – North. The fleet will have a 72 hours stopover on the uninhabited island of Suwarrow in the Cook Islands, and other 72 hours stopover with a full programme in Niue. The World ARC fleet is expected to arrive in Vava’u, Kingdom of Tonga, between 29 May – 05 June.

You can always follow the fleet progress in here.
