Leopard seals are among the top predator in the Antarctic ecosystem, preying on penguins and fur seals that in turn prey on krill. That makes the species a useful barometer of the health of Antarctic fisheries

Drone photos yield faster, cheaper data on key Antarctic species
Scientists tested the accuracy of aerial measurements by catching and measuring the same seals the drone photographed. They found the length measurements accurate to within about two percent, and the weight measurements within about four percent.
