Passage racing is a kind of cross between a raid and a long distance
race, but generaly shorter. I dont think there are many (if any) of
them run in this country but the few bits ive heard about them sound
like a top idea.
Start at point A, mission it down to point B, then possibly back to point A again. Could be run as a handicap event, or even better: a freestyle. Anything goes... anyone fancy lending me a 49er rig and some 18ft skiff racks for the cherub? MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! |

They do a race a bit like that at Seaford and Newhaven - along the coast to the mouth of the Cuckmere and back again. A good one is the Medway Marathon - all the way to the mouth of the Medway, with a few twiddly bits, and back again. They try to make it as near as they can to the marathon length (26 miles I think). Then of course there is the Round Isle of Sheppey - that's about 40 miles. One year I did it in 4½ hours - in a Laser - it was a reach most of the way round. I intend doing it in the 4000 next September - not the best boat for it, but if I can persuade them to lay a turning mark off Leysdown, they might get more high perfomance boats with dagger boards. |

Instead of arguing about venues, what about doing an overall series, 3 weekends, North to South??? Get a lot of sponsorship behind through Y&Y and we could be onto a real winner |

I think this sounds like a brilliant idea. how about a north vs south competition or is that going to cause too much rivalry?!
