Aeros are much more actively raced than Lasers based on the numbers I see serving as plant pots.

It's inevitable that a new class will be more active relative to the number of boats built and I'm not sure how it's relevant in this context? Nearly all old boats will become unloved and abandoned eventually and even if we could guess how many Lasers were in a sailable condition in the UK it wouldn't really be relevant, what matters is how many people are racing them. As Aero numbers continue to increase I reckon they will eventually become a more active racing class than the Laser.

But, if the comparison with the Laser is unreasonable how about comparing the Aero with the Supernova? The Aero has over 2000 boats sold, say 1000 are Aero 7s, the Supernova between 300 and 400 so around 1/3rd of the number but has around 400 more races returned that the Aero 7...

When I was first studying stats at Uni ... most of a lifetime and a very long time ago now we had to 'read  around' one particular course in advance .  On the reading list to prepare us was one enjoyable lighter read ...  "How to lie with statistics" and it is probably still in print today.

Surprisingly useful in hindsight if for no other reason than it developed a quick awareness or recognition for BS 'backed' by stats....  It becmes fairly obvious once you recognise the whiff  !
