It can never be good when someone with a cherub asks how tall a 49er mast is

thing is though that they're aluminium with a fibre glass tip, unless i'm mistaken? sounds like a lot of excess weight for sticking on a lightweight boat?

True, though there's likely to a whole load of them going spare before too long, with the new Carbon stick coming in.

I think Smiley used a cut down one on Fuzzy Logic. It was I think a bit heavy and agricultural.

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

The squid also had a cut down 49er mast - problem was, the middle to top was so bendy the rig would just pant upwind! & Ross, the 49er main from boom level to head is only 6.5m! Get a big cat rig! ps, I have a 49er mast tip floating around at home if its any use........... was spare for my boat pps, is this for your container beast? |

Haha, I have a young pad-won (how ever its spelt!) Ross, NO - a 49er kite wouldnt fit, the hoist is too high for a cherub mast. I put one on Aqua with the No2 mast and fixed pole, but its only 38m!! Thats smaller than my no3 kite on the 12! But seriously, the 49er isnt gay! Its a 'pig' so sail, but has some good features. Like twining downwind in 20knots - go for the gybe, just roll it ontop and run to the other side, hook on and go. unlike a cherub............. Oh and SO fast upwind! & 49er jib would prob fit, but not the main, by the time youve played with it and cut it itll be a bag of poo. I had a new rules I14 main re-cut in the head, that worked well for Aqua. Anyway the disclaimer: all views are my own, ive owned / raced these boats, my own views are not official or that of the nation. ps Ross, there is a spare 12 comming over in the new year, wink wink! |
