Having read this and your post in the 100 thread, do you have some axe to
grind? You seem pretty aggressive for a newie.

Am looking forward to Sunday...looks D-One weather.

I went up to QM today to re-check that she was still alive after last night/today's mental wind.

There was one windsurfer out...(grf??)

I could actually lean into the gusts at an angle just standing.....I hven't seen wind like that for a long time.

A colleague of mine at work went on an Atlantic cruise to New York and must have sailed head on into that storm....I wouldn't feel much like eating in that.....luxury or not

Hi Tim

Consider my wrists well and truly slapped.  Maybe not a traditional 'highjack' as in my defence I was really just responding to a request for photos already here but I'll set up a Halo thread in due course .... and you are very welcome to pitch in yourself naturally.

Bring the D1 along to Burghfield again sometime.  Are you doing any of the winter handicaps ?  And what PN are 'they' using for it ?  In the meantime enjoy !

Mike L.

OMG look at the distortion..

Tell me

What's the point of having an extra front sail if the main one distorts like
that?

Look at it. Top all twisted off mast tip bent out of shape, damn our windsurf
rigs are more dimensionally stable than that, what's that mast made of?

Bendy bending stuff from the Planet Bender?

(sigh)....

The reason why the mast bends like that is to cope with the huge mainsail.

If you're gonna have a big main and the wind gets up you need it to spill off.

You (GRF) will find this out when you sail your 100, if / when you get it.

With the stays you will find more support, but then that's why you will have less mainsail area to worry about.

The beauty of this main and mast is that you can use the power, right up to the moment that you need to start loosing it, as opposed to having a finite power that you could probably do with having more of, in certain conditions.

So the next good thing about it....which to be fair, being a windsurfer you are going to have to start learning.... is the shape of the mainsail compared to the kite, it's very important to get the slot right (the gap between the mainsail and the kite).

If you look carefully you will see that when the mast bends like that (cos it was made in bendy street arizona) you get the mainsail taking the same shape as the kite, hence creating the best lift out of both sails.

And there you have it....simple.

Looks different, but you know what??? It really works.
