Results so far ...

http://www.fragliavela.org/tl_files/contenuti/regate/classif iche/2009%20MPS%20results.HTM

Great opening scores from Russ Clark.

Good international fleet of 74 boats and some AUS faces in the mix as well.

Will be interesting to see where Marcus Hamilton ends up ... Contender guru in recent years I believe

Just over half the fleet is GBR which is representative of the total boats sold world wide.

The Europeans in 2002 was won by a GER by GBR has won all since then ... we have got stuck into class more than any other nation, but then again we are the strongest nation in the 49er as well.

We're just the strongest sailing nation period.

Pity that confidence doesn't spread into what we build for ourselves..

I'd say we have some pretty good boat builders, sail makers and spar builders in the UK, probably the best in the world.

Marcus Hamilton was World Champion in the contender fleet last year - though there wasn't the best of turnouts, but more impressively first won the title in 2007, the 40th anniversary of the class when 140 boats took part and all the main Europeans were out in force.
the same, but different...

2 times Contender World CHamp ... good to see him in the class I am sure this will not be a regatta to remember for the results ...

49 AUS 391 HAMILTON MARCUS 271,0 (ocs) 24 dsq ocs 13 9 ocs

But I have no doubt he is learning a great deal and will be looking to give the visitors a bashing when we go to Melbourne for the Worlds.

I met Jason Beebe once. He was a good 14 sailor. He should improve quickly too.

Gossip is that they are all good and sailing fast in straight lines but sailing in a fleet of 73 boats is coming as a bit of a shock as they only have small fleets locally, but that will change.

Controling the boat well in the pack on the start is quite tricky and I guess the European sailors have have much more exposure/prictice of that ...

There is no doubt the Aussies are excellent sailors and will be challenging the European fleet in due course, great addition to the international flavour of the fleet.
