Hi there,
I'm new to this forum so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section and for the long post. This coming summer I am organising a charity endurance challenge to try and raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. Part of the challenge will involve an attempt to row across the Irish Sea, from Arklow to Porthmadog. For this part of the challenge I am looking to charter a boat that could act as a support vessel on the crossing. I have spent a fair few years around smaller boats (Dart 18 to be precice) but I don't have the first clue about the larger variants. The team will consist of 10 participants (5 rowing at a time), two expedition leaders and up to two extra support people. At any one time there would be no more than 9 of our team on board (excepting and emergency) but it would need to have space for the 5 participants to sleep and make hot drinks etc. One of the expedition leaders has the following qualifications and would be in charge of the crossing: Currently Bosun at the Royal Engineers Commando Yacht Club RYA coastal skipper commercially endorsed soon to do Yacht master
RYA first aid
Military First aid
Approx 40000 nautical miles sailed
rounded Cape Horn under sail this year I guess what I am trying to ask in a very loong winded manner is, does anyone have advice on where to go to find suitable vessels we could charter (either skippered or un-skippered due to our Exp. Leaders experience). I'm happy to provide more details on here or privately of any part of the trip. Any help would be really appreciated. Cheers, David |

I'm not in that part of the world, so have no idea.
However, I'd probably start by speaking to fishing fleets, diving companies etc. basically anyone with a boat that suits your needs locally either side of your trip. I'd start with pitching it as a sponsorship opportunity i.e. they provide the boat and you splash their company name all over your website and newspapers etc. Good luck - sounds like a pretty ambitious undertaking! |
