A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod aircrew medevaced an 84-year-old woman Monday after she fell and sustained a fractured ankle and a head injury while on the cruise ship Queen Mary 2 about 70 miles southeast of Nantucket.
Queen Mary 2's crew notified Coast Guard watchstanders at around 9 a.m. of the circumstances and requested a medevac for the patient.
An Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at around 11:45 a.m. and hoisted the patient along with her son and a registered nurse from the ship.
A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft also responded and provided communication support.
The helicopter crew transported the patient and passengers to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The patient was reported to be in stable condition at the time of the transfer.
