A look into how Elan Yachts redefined the performance cruiser category of sailboats

by David Rajapakse 21 Aug 2018 14:00 UTC

For experienced sailors, there never seems to be a boat that's perfect for every kind of adventure. Yes, cruising comfort with your friends and family is very important, but you don't want to compromise on that true sailing experience, where harvesting as much wind as possible and achieving good results on regattas matters.

Elan Yachts has a long tradition in developing fast and reliable sailboats, famous for their performance and comfort not only in the Mediterranean, their native environment, but throughout the world. Now, the evolution of the unmatched craftsmanship skill, sailing technology and know-how pushed their E and GT line yachts into a new dimension, pioneering the crossover segment.

Elan Yachts E and GT lines are taking comfort to previously unprecedented levels on boats that fast. With a broad stern, chined hull and twin rudders, they deliver control and stability at high heel angles and speeds, while the airy, well-equipped galley, a social saloon, split backstay and waterline platforms enable unabridged enjoyment onboard. These yachts now represent the most enhanced standard package on the market, with performance sailing solutions as prominent as comfort-centric features.

Important Changes in 2018 on E Line Models

Based on Elan's signature performance-orientated boat building heritage, the E Line has always ensured high-performance sailing and impeccable cruising capabilities both on deck and below. A broad stern, chined hull and twin rudders have always delivered control and stability at high heel angles and speeds, while the airy interior and remarkable array of top-of-the-line deck equipment enabled extraordinary comfort and short-handed sailing solutions.

What's new in 2018?

These VOR70 inspired yachts, designed in concert with Humphreys Yacht Design, now come with the most enhanced standard package on the market; with high-performance sailing solutions as prominent as comfort-centric features.

The DAME-design-awarded control panel is now installed on all E Line yachts, as is a modern electrical system with plenty of USB ports and aesthetic ambient and courtesy lighting solutions.

All models now include a carbon fibre retractable bowsprit, tapered keel stepped masts, a genoa furling system and adjustable split backstays. This is in the standard and covers the majority of your performance and race sailing needs.

Larger steering pedestals with grab rails are now also part of the standard offer, along with a fully-equipped galley and head, a hot water system, curtains and blinds over windows and hatches, and natural oak veneer on the interior furniture.

The boutique nature of the E Line yachts is especially evident when delving deep into the details of the boat; the quality of finish, technology and state-of-the-art equipment all point to a yacht that is not as competitively priced as an Elan. In addition, the enhanced standard package in the 2018 season created a truly unprecedented and as-of-yet unmatched offer in its class.
