The new Marina Del Ray in Gilli Gede, Lombok, started to fill with World ARC boats today as the first few yachts completed Leg 9 of the Rally.

The first to arrive was the norwegian yacht Aurora Polaris with Terje and Pia onboard.

For many, this passage from Darwin to Indonesia has been windless and uneventful one, with a lot of time spent motoring rather than sailing, but the reward to this perseverance with the light wind conditions is the beautiful island of Lombok.

After the arrival the participants gathered for an informal welcome at the Marina Del Ray Resort, where a typical meal of grilled fish or beef was served. The setting was perfect, with large tables close to the beach, enabling everyone to mix and enjoy being back together after what had been a frustratingly light airs leg.

During the stopover participants greatly enjoyed exploring the island: many crews have been traveling inland, experiencing local culture and visiting some of the scenic highlights of this beautiful island on the organised "Lombok at a Glance Tour" organised by World Cruising Club and, for the more adventurous, independently.

The island has so much to offer from the volcano of Mount Rinjani to the surf beaches of Kuta Lombok. Everyone loved exploring the island, and taking the opportunity to relax in the tranquil setting of Gili Gede.
