Marlow Ropes announce official supplier status to New York Yacht Club American Magic

by Kate McCoy 11 Mar 2019 17:00 UTC

Marlow Ropes Inc, the leading manufacturer of high performance cordage, is pleased to announce official supplier status to New York Yacht Club American Magic, Challenger for the 36th America's Cup.

This exciting new partnership sees Marlow USA in familiar territory, having rigged previous America's Cup Challengers and with their continued development work with the US Sailing Team. The cutting edge ropemaker will now be working with the American Magic technical team to develop custom, sustainable rigging solutions in their quest to bring the Cup back to its rightful home in the 44th street clubhouse of New York Yacht Club.

"Outfitting our boats with the best possible rope and line is crucial to our campaign to win the America's Cup," said Terry Hutchinson, Skipper and Executive Director of American Magic. "Through Marlow, we have access to not only the most advanced products available, but line that we can rely on to perform at high speeds and under significant loads."

"Marlow's experience with past Cups gives us realistic perspective into the requirements of a Challenger," notes Marlow US Manager Forrest Williams "and we're uniquely positioned to address them, through the use of existing tech in the grand prix sailing arena as well as through leveraging emerging tech in other industries we service. We're in a great spot to meet the textile challenges of the AC75 platform and look forward to helping American Magic put their best foot forward as this Cup cycle unfolds."

Marlow's history in world class British rope manufacturing dates back over 200 years, and has earned its reputation as the world-leading manufacturer of high performance rope. Now the premier sailing rope brand will again be featured in the heart of the most spectacular sailing competition in the world.

The 36th edition of the America's Cup will be held in March 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand, and will be contested in 75-foot foiling monohulls.
