Barton Newsline - August 2019

Good Morning,

We hope you are having a great summer and have spent plenty of time out on the water, despite the
slightly hit and miss weather.  The team have been busy with the Rolex Fastnet Race and Whitstable Harbour Day, as well as looking back at one of our greatest business achievements ever.  Read on to find out what has been going on in the world of Barton over the last month.

Barton Team Member Dave Hawkins Competes in the Fastnet Race

Many of the Barton Marine team are very passionate about sailing, but this year Dave Hawkins has taken his love of sailing to the next level.  He competed in the Rolex Fastnet Race aboard Morpheus, a Shuttleworth Trimaran.  The team finished the race despite suffering a broken centreboard with 200 miles to finish.  Up to that point they were at the front of their class, enjoying the delights of sailing with a pod of Dolphins.

Barton Boomstrut Winning in the Fastnet Race

The Barton 44035 Boomstrut is being chosen by more and more racing sailors to help them control the power.  No more accidental boom falls, no more topping lift hassles, no adjustments and no hang ups.

Leon a JPK 10.30 class yacht which won the Rolex Fastnet race in IRC 3 and in the two handed category makes good use of a Boomstrut (congratulations to Alexis Loison and boat builder Jean-Pierre Kelbert), alongside Fastrak X11 which came second to Leon in both the IRC 3 and two handed classes.  Congratulations to Hannah Diamond and Henry Bomby as well.

Barton Exhibit at Whitstable Harbour Day

The sun was out on Whitstable Harbour Day and the Barton Team had a great time demonstrating the range alongside our good friends at Drascombe Boats, who brought along a gorgeous Lugger kitted out with Barton Victory Wooden Blocks and a host of other fittings.

We ran a competition during the day, challenging visitors to assemble a new size 2 Swivel Block.  The winner was Peter Harrison down for the day from Eltham with his family, putting the block together in 26.12 seconds.  The slowest time of the day was 2 minutes 19 seconds.

Marine Manufacturing Mission imPossible

It is now just over 18 months since our new range of lighter, stronger and sleeker dark grey blocks became available on the shelves.  We launched 492 new products in a really short space of time and we are quite proud of our achievement.  We have been reflecting back on the mission, which many said was impossible and learning from the successes and challenges for future launches.  Having said that, we have no plans to change an entire range anytime soon!  Lots of useful additions for your yachts coming to boost the range though.

We will be at Southampton Boat Show in September in partnership with our UK distributor Barrus.  Find us on Stand J316 to see the classic and new range of Barton products - especially the new Barton Ratchet Block active display.

Also find us in the Lobby Entrance of the Show in The Manufacturer's Showcase and see if you can set a record in our Beat the Barton Block Clock Competition.

Everyone is welcome to join us for drinks, nibbles and conversation at the Women in Marine Reception on Wednesday 18 September in the British Marine Members Lounge.  The event will feature speakers Lottie Harland from Ausome Charity and Fran Ramsay from the management team at Navico who will share their marine experiences!  Find out more here.
We hope you have a great bank holiday weekend and we look forward to catching up with you all at Southampton Boat Show on stand J316.

Kind Regards,

The Barton Marine Team
