Windsurfer Australian Championship - Day 2

by Mitch Pearson/SurfSailKite 24 Jan 2020 14:39 UTC

Day two of the Windsurfer Nationals saw four course races on a tricky track as winds swung and never settled.

The first race got off right on ten to make up for the day one postponement. The two heavyweight divisions and the cruisers started first under an overcast sky with the lightweight, medium weight and women starting soon after. In the second race the lightweights brought the black flag into play after two incursions from a large numbers of sailors.

Three races were complete before lunch after some tight racing in between wind shifts and some rolling seas. The fleet retuned to the water for one more afternoon race before the wind gave in for the day. Sailors had to choose wisely during the race as strong incoming lines of breeze attracted many to head out to the right. However it never materialised and these sailors had to lick their wounds and sail on at the back of the pack.

Day three is looking good with a light onshore breeze to complete the course racing and move onto the slalom competition.
