The MedSailing 2020 Trophy, organized by the CN El Balís, concluded after four days of races that marked the first act of the 2020 Eurocup circuit.
The British sailors Freya Black and Fin Amstrong have been the winners in the 29er Class. In the Europe Class the first position has been for Cyril Richard from France and in the 420 Class for the German sailors Luca Jost and Finn Shäfer.
89 teams took part in the 29er Class competition, the largest in the MedSailing 2020. Black and Amstrong clearly dominated the competition, winning 8 of the 13 races, giving them the first place in El Balís and placing them as leaders of the 2020 Eurocup.
Second place has been for the Italians Stephan Baker and Marco Misseroni ten points behind the winners, and third place for the French team of Tangui Le Goff and Youeen Bertin. Fourth position has been for the Spanish team formed by Quicorras Urios and Filippo Binetti (RCN Valencia) which gave them the third prize in the youth category.
The winner team said after their MedSailing victory: "we have been coming to El Balís to compete for a couple of years. We had never been in a European competition with as much wind as the 20 knots of the first day, and it is really spectacular to sail here in these conditions".
In the Europe class the triumph has been for Cyril Richard (France) in a very tight competition with Jonathan Lladó (Sweden). The French sailor finished on rank one ahead of Lladó by three points after discarding an OCS in the first day. Third place was for the Catalan Isaac Vilà (CN L'Estartit).
In the 420 Class a solid domination by the two German teams, with Luca Jost and Finn Shäfer crowned as winners after taking the first place since the opening day and the team of Amelie and Katarina Shmid coming second. Locals Pau Llibre and Alberto Marsans (CN El Balís) closed the podium in third position. The MedSailing has been a good opportunity for the 420 fleet that will have its Spanish Cup in the same location at the end of October.
The MedSailing 2020 has been a great success with a very high attendance of sailors particularly for the 29er class. The weather conditions during the four days -with winds between 10 and 21 knots- allowed the celebration of 13 races in the 29th Class and 12 in Europe and 420, thus completing the planned program.
