Why Splice? Marlow's rope-care education campaign continues at the RYA Dinghy Show

by Sian Killean, Marlow Ropes 27 Feb 2020 12:00 UTC 29 Stand B52, February - 1 March 2020

Marlow will be continuing their rope-care education campaign and sharing their expertise throughout the weekend of the RYA Dinghy Show, 29th February - 1st March with interactive talks and splicing workshops.

'More Grip, Less Friction' will be held in the Knowledge Zone, at 11am. This interactive talk is designed to give advice and tips on how to choose the correct ropes for the right application, how to reduce friction on ropes and wear and tear signs to look out for.

David Mossman, Marlow's UK Sales Manager will also be hosting splicing demonstrations and workshops at 2:30pm, on Marlow's stand (B52) with a helping hand from some of the 'British Sailing Team' members, giving a more personal experience for people wanting to get to grips with splicing.

David expresses the importance of splicing and using the artisan skill.

"The level of strength reduction in a knot can be substantial, and in some cases, strength can be reduced by over 50 per cent, which can depend on many factors, including the type of knot, how the knot is tied, how neat it is, how the rope is loaded and the construction and material that the rope is made out of."

The 30 minute interactive, fun workshops are aimed at sailors of all levels and ages who want to come along and learn a new skill, improve on a splice technique or have their splicing and rope questions answered by industry professionals.

The splicing expert continues...

"Everybody, no matter their experience can learn to splice, it's just about practice! We are constantly trying to better inform our audience and give them the tools they need to develop their splicing technique or to even start to splice. We are continuously working to provide educational material such as rope-shows, video tutorials, splicing workshops or interactive talks.

Keep up to date with Marlow at the show by visiting stand B52.
