Sparrow departed San Francisco 8 November 2020 to attempt a solo nonstop unassisted voyage around the world.
I would like to inform you of the fact that as the OCC Port Officer Representative of Puerto Williams, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, we are proud to have been able to fulfil here the OCC's mission, providing, with the help of an OCC member, the necessary assistance to Mr. Whitall Strokes, a US sailor who had undertaken a solo non-stop round the world, sailing aboard his Open 50 s/v Sparrow. Due to technical problems, unfortunately, he had to stop over at Puerto Williams.
Not only did Whitall receive all the necessary support from us, but as well from the Chilean Navy and authorities, who authorized his entry to Puerto Williams, despite the fact that the maritime borders were closed at that moment due to the pandemic and after his attempt to enter Argentina at Ushuaia had failed for the same reason.
Whitall set sail last Friday and is currently sailing NE of the Falkland Islands in the Southern Atlantic, heading up the Atlantic to Florida in good spirits.
