As part of the production of its next documentary, the Race for Water Foundation met with experts on the many issues surrounding the plastic crisis.

We know today that plastic is not only a pollution problem but that it affects much more complex issues that deserve to be known by the general public and seriously taken into account by our political and industrial leaders.

In order to share this valuable knowledge, we have decided to produce a series of short episodes that address issues such as the health risks of plastic packaging, the chemicals in plastic, the current dangers of recycling and alternatives to plastics, and social and environmental justice. Each series concludes with an episode on possible solutions to these many challenges.

To become an expert in your own right, let scientists and specialists in their fields guide you.

All videos are subtitled in English, French and Spanish.

Plastics and the world of chemicals

Dr. Jane Muncke is director and scientific expert of the Food Packaging Forum. In a series of 5 videos, she shares her knowledge on the public health issues related to the use of plastics in food packaging. Both the regulations and the way plastics are controlled today are insufficient to protect our health. A total paradigm shift is needed.

Plastics and the world of social and environmental justice

David Azoulay is an attorney and Director of the Health and Environment Program at the Center for International Environmental Law.

This video series addresses the plastic crisis through the lens of social and environmental justice. Plastic affects our basic rights throughout its life cycle. The most disadvantaged communities around the world are affected by the disasters of plastic pollution created by the oil industry. A binding international treaty against plastic pollution is needed to ambitiously address these issues.

Plastics and the world of toxicity

Dr. Pete Myers is chair, founder and chief scientist of Environmental Health Sciences and one of the co-authors of the famous book "Our stolen future" published in 1996.

He has been fighting toxic chemicals, including endocrine disruptors, for over 30 years. Many of these devastating substances are found in our everyday plastic products. How did we get here? What are the consequences? What can be done to ensure a healthy environment for all of us? Here we take a look at the toxicity inherent in plastics as they are designed today.
