Dash for the Cash at Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club

Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club hosted the second 'Dash for the Cash' sponsored by Hobin of Preston the Seat dealership in Preston over the bank holiday weekend.

12 yachts with a total of 60 competitors lined up on the start line just North of Fleetwood. The course was to a channel mark towards the Wyre Light then with spinnakers set the yachts graced the River Wyre as the sailed up to Wardleys and on up to Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club at Skippool.

One spectator told us "it was good to see so many offshore yachts racing on the River Wyre again".

Principle race officer Peter Jackson finished the race just off the former ICI plant at Thornton.

Race winner, Chris Duffy in his yacht Carmen, thanked the race committee and the sponsor, Hobin of Preston, in his acceptance speech as he collected his £500 prize.

A total of £1000 was split between the first 5 yachts in an event totally unique in armature sailing in the UK. Michael Partingtom from Royal Windermere Yacht Club said, "This is a great event, and can only grow in popularity, well done to the organisers and sponsors".

£1000 prize money for The Dash
At Blackpool and Fleetwood YC Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club have announced they are to host a large offshore and keelboat regatta to be held on the weekend of 4th–7th May, the first bank holiday weekend in May. The main event ”The Dash” will be held on the 6 May Posted on 9 Mar 2012
Blackpool and Fleetwood Eskimo Pursuit

Eskimo Pursuit Trophy
At at Blackpool & Fleetwood YC Neil Marsden and Graham Nelson won the Eskimo Pursuit Trophy at Blackpool & Fleetwood Yacht Club in fine style sailing a 470. This was the first 470 victory since Laurie Smith won here some years ago – not bad company then. Posted on 2 Jan 2005
