Round one of the South Australian State Championship was held on Sunday 9th November at the Port River Sailing Club.

Conditions in the river are typically challenging for competitors and again we were not disappointed with a good breeze ranging in strength from 12 to 22 knots and providing for some great rides!

Earlier in the day John Heywood and Brett Littledike held a training session to help ensure that everyone was up to speed and ready for the first serious races of our season. Thanks John, Brett and helpers for your time.

In the state championship races, Robin and Joel came away with two wins. Thommo and Havas had a good first race to finish second. John and Brett improved to take 2nd in race two. The team of Matt Carter and Matt Neale sailed consistently well to collect two 3rd places.

Racing was fiercely contested throughout the fleet. Everyone had an interesting story to tell after the races.

The daily screwball award was not presented and will be carried over until the next round of racing however there are a few great nominations. Pete Inns sailing off single handed and then turning the boat turtle in the middle of the river was a sight to be seen and will be hard to beat. The bar has already been raised in the battle for the 'Screwball' trophy!

The next races for our state championship are to be held at Adelaide Sailing Club December 6th and 7th.

Some experienced competitors found the challenge a bit too robust Yesterday's Frostbites in Dun Laoghaire Harbour were a test for organisers and competitors alike.
