Wrexham MP Ian Lucas tried his hand at sailing to help Push the Boat Out in North Wales, an initiative aimed at encouraging people to enjoy free opportunities to try sailing.

Lucas went out on the water at Gresford sailing club, trying dinghy sailing as well as meeting officials, volunteers and those turning up for the day.

They were among many people who took advantage of the free offer to try sailing at clubs all round Wales, several hundred in North Wales alone.

"It was great to have Ian Lucas at Gresford," said RYA Cymru Wales national development officer Ruth Iliffe.

"He was a good sport in every sense, meeting the officials and volunteers at the club but also taking the chance to get out on the water himself and try a bit of dinghy sailing.

"Push the Boat out is all about giving people the opportunity to get on the water and give the lifetime sport of sailing a go, so to have someone like Ian can only help boost the sport at Gresford and elsewhere."
