Brummy Boom

This weekend saw the Brummy Boom being sailed at Bartley Sailing Club over the weekend of November 19/20. Only 40 races were sailed on the Saturday before the wind evaporated leading to an early finish and the decision to continue with the HLS round robin on Sunday.

Better wind on Sunday enabled 100 races to be completed with only a small squall of around force 5 to complicate proceedings for a short while.

The semi finals saw Cambridge Red (as they like to be called) against Nottingham White and Warwick Black against Nottingham Green. Cambridge got through to the final 2:0 but racing was very close between Nottingham and Warwick with Nottingham Green coming out on top 2:1.

In the final the Cambridge team of Robbie McDonald, Gordon Cogan Sivarajan, Tim Hire, David Preece, Hannah Cox and Luke Bligh (photo) proved to be the better team winning 2:0 and putting Nottingham Green into second place, while Warwick Black won the petit-final to finish third.

Welsh Dragon

Meanwhile, at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club the Welsh Dragon was taking place. A lack of wind on Saturday forced a very late start (around 2pm) and only 18 races could be sailed in marginal and very light conditions.

Sunday conditions were better, but squally and they got to 84 races, despite a 30min delay as they went to cutdowns. Luckily all boats were on the pontoon when the big squall went through, just before the final stages.

The Final was extremely competitive between Southampton and Bristol, going neck and neck to the final beat of the fifth race, with Southampton emerging as the winners.
