The grand finale for the 2023 Foiling SuMoth Challenge among the students from top universities is at the starting line and the thrill is imminent.

This yearly three stage student competition challenges the participants to design (stage 1), build (stage 2) and sail (stage 3) their own sustainable foiling Moth concept where innovation, sustainability, collaboration and fun have been colliding since 2019. The goal is common, all teams try to produce the most efficient and sustainable concept, innovating on new designs, materials and methods to reduce the traditional methods CO2 footprint of the marine industry.

Continuing with the collaboration to create sustainable solutions, minimizing the environmental impact and aiming towards zero waste, 11th Hour Racing, main sponsor of the Foiling SuMoth Challenge since its inception in 2019, has extended its support for another year.

More than 250 future engineers and naval architects will represent some of the most illustrious Universities in the world from five different Nations: Politecnico di Milano (ITA), ICAM Nantes (FRA), University of Pavia (ITA), École de Technologie Supérieure (CAN), Chalmers University (SWE), University of Solent (UK), Politecnico di Torino (ITA).

The open session for the presentation and evaluation of the competing projects, scheduled for July 2nd, will precede the speed tests and the fleet races before the award ceremony on July 5th.

All presentations, races and speed tests are open to the public, as well as the SuMoth village at Fraglia Vela Malcesine waterfront, where the rigging, trimming and electronics preparation of the concepts can be appreciated.
