Bluenose Yacht Sales, which returns as presenting sponsor of the 2024 Ida Lewis Distance Race, has created a special charter package for its Sun Fast 3300 to encourage new entries, especially in the event's Doublehanded Class.

Scheduled for August 16-17 and hosted by Ida Lewis Yacht Club, the popular distance race starts and finishes in Newport, R.I. hosting ORC, PHRF and PHRF Doublehanded Classes.

"The Sun Fast 3300 is optimized for doublehanded and fully crewed offshore racing and is equipped with new North 3Di racing sails, B&G offshore electronics, water ballast, carbon rig, twin rudders, and all the safety equipment required for the race," said Jonathan Banks of Bluenose Yacht Sales. "This is a turnkey program; just add crew and provisions!" (If booked before March 31, 2024, the charterer's team receives a free one-half day of training.)

Banks explained that there is a growing fleet of Sun Fasts in New England, and they are expecting four to five Sun Fasts to compete in this year's Ida Lewis Distance Race, including Avalon, the winner of last year's eight-boat Doublehanded Class.

The charter fee for the Ida Lewis Distance Race is $7,500, which includes two practice days and the race, plus a mooring in Newport Harbor.

Last year, a total of 47 Ida Lewis Distance Race teams sailed over courses that ranged from 129 to 230 nautical miles. In a new format to be continued in 2024, the Race Committee decided the courses shortly before the start, basing them on predicted wind and weather to be completed in as close to 24 hours as possible.
