Northwest Maritime Center is all about connecting people to opportunities on the water. That's why we're excited to invite you to our Maritime Career Fair on Saturday, March 16, from 10 AM-2 PM.

This event is designed to help students and families learn more about opportunities in the maritime world. It's a chance for middle and high school youth, their families, and anyone who is curious about working in maritime to meet industry professionals and explore the many pathways to a maritime career—including school programs and post-graduation opportunities.

We're looking forward to inspiring the next generation about the vast possibilities in maritime careers and answering common questions like "What is maritime?" and "What do maritime careers look like?" A number of industry partners are lined up to be there to share more about the maritime opportunities they offer and answer your questions.

Expect insightful discussions and firsthand information from NWMC youth and career programs, as well as maritime professionals including:

  • Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding
  • Port Townsend Foundry
  • Port Townsend Shipwrights Coop
  • ACI Boats
  • Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • US Coast Guard
  • Washington State Ferries
  • Northwest Maritime Apprenticeship
  • Puget Sound Pilots
  • Peninsula College Marine Technology Program
  • Star Marine Tugs

Beyond job booths and networking, there will be plenty of snacks, giveaways, and fun experiences to participate in. Here are some of the family-friendly activities you can look forward to:

  • Try on "gumby" immersion suits and other maritime gear and then take your photo at our selfie station
  • Crawl into a liferaft and learn about survival at sea (on the safety of land)
  • Learn how to tie knots
  • Make a bracelet using cool knots
  • Get your face painted
  • Check out an underwater ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) unit
  • Learn about tools used in the boatbuilding trade
  • Check out the shackles, ropes, and work vests used on barge
  • Explore the sails and rigging of a very small boat
  • Challenge yourself in the "Guess the Boat Part" puzzle
  • Examine an electrical panel that would be installed in a boat
  • Check out marine hardware created at the Port Townsend Foundry

Be sure to save the date and bring your questions. We hope to see you there!

Date: Saturday, March 16, 10 AM-2 PM

Location: Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St, Port Townsend
