Cheers to David and Kris

Cheers indeed  Andrea Francolini
Sitting in Mandurah, just South of Perth in Western Australia it all just seemed fitting. Like many, I have been enjoying tales interspersed with history and technical info, along with some wonderful seamanship from their SV Taipan, which actually left these very parts moons and moons ago.

Now I have not met David Frost and Kris Adams, but I did want to say thanks. The fact that they are obviously also real coffee heads brings more than a certain simpatico to the whole discussion. Yet it is discussion that is the core message of this very editorial - fellow cruisers write the tales you enjoy. If you have ever thought about putting your fingers across the keyboard, then please do so.

Equally, you do not have to have super-expensive camera gear to make it all happen. Happy- snappy type devices also take a fair image. Remember to that the world's largest selling camera is a Smartphone and the new ones of those are really quite amazing.

Some live vicariously through your work, others see things or read about places they have been and compare them with their own memories or thoughts on the subject. Point is, it is about the collective pool. Blogging is another way to get the word out, and we can always use material off your site and back reference it. It is another way for people to find you or stay in touch with cruising friends presently spread all over the globe.

Time to get busy...

Some might say it is too much work, but having that catalogue of information can be really useful. I use mine all the time from being out at dinner and starting conversations, to these very pages. You might not want to be that well known, personally, so your boat name can always be used instead.

Now some may be going ulterior motive, and yes, content is the name of this particular business. However I am immediately reminded of the oft massaged quote from the Persian poet, Saadi - “A traveller without observation is a bird without wings.” Think of how many times you would have loved a little more intel before going somewhere, or the number of times you Googled something or read another cruiser's report to get an idea.

Also, some like to read things, others need to be told and some like videos. The medium is not the question here. It might be altruistic in terms of putting something back, sure, and that lies between perhaps to most likely.

Please consider that if the only dumb question is the one not asked, then the analogous situation is the only bad story is the one not told. Also, to have a conversation, you first have to ask the question and open the mind as to the responses.
Sail-World does have a whole raft of material on Contributor's Requirements on the site, here, but it is geared towards racing somewhat. There are Editor's all over the globe and a team of terrific Sub-Editors who you can reach via editor@sail-world.com, should you want to make a start on the tales of your own adventures or alert us to your own existing blog or site.

You can choose to promote intel for the sake of human development, or seek a little leverage to bring traffic to your own site where you might be selling books or videos of your escapades. Sail-World can assist, just reach out to us.

Hurricane Matthew - Florida - current strength and location  © PredictWind

OK. In this newsletter you will find terrific material on everything from the Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean, to Esther and Neil Symons wonderful tale about making a very real impact on the lives of the islanders whose ‘home' they enjoy so much, and getting climbers of cliff faces. Matthew has hit and his damage is past significant, with pictures from NASA and PredictWind to demonstrate the might of the Gods.

Taipan reminded me of such in the ‘Farewell ol' England' piece with this - King Canute set his throne by the sea and commanded the tide to halt, and when it didn't he hung up his crown saying. 'Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws.' QED me thinks...

So you see, there are tales, lessons, inspirations and history to regale yourself with. Please do enjoy... We're loving bringing you the best stories from all over the globe.

Now then, are you out there plying the seas and got something to say? We'd love to hear from you via editor@sail-world.com – In the meantime, do you love being on the ocean? Well remember to love them back too. They need our help. Now more than ever! Until next time...

SV Taipan,

Boaters have free hurricane-preparation help from BoatUS
D. Scott Croft,
With weather forecasters hard at work trying to determine the course Hurricane Matthew will take later this week, recreational boaters, marinas and boating facilities along the US Southeastern Coast may not want to wait to make preparations. “It doesn't take a direct hit for winds, rains and surge to cause damage,” said BoatUS Seaworthy Editor Charles Fort.... A new sail for Bredio
Esther and Neil Symons,
We are in the Robeson Islands, an archipelago of six small islands that reach out about three miles from the Panama mainland. It is a secluded area that tourists seldom visit. Skippy's Sister...
John Curnow,
Not. It's actually a bit of a follow on from a previous editorial entitled, Quippy. In short, it covers off a good bit of kit, as in ‘eQUIPment'. Based on the feedback from Quippy, I contacted Gaelle Marks from Wichard Pacific again, because I had seen, and even used these really cool new furlers they have from Facnor. A lot of boats have an A-Sail now, even a Code Zero to compliment the Gennaker.... [more]
